Stepping Out from Classroom to the Community

On April 24th, a primary school in Medni Singh Poora organized a Prabhat Pheri (morning rally) as part of the School Chalo Abhiyan. Forty children, five teachers, and ten parents walked through the village, spreading awareness about school enrollment—especially for children with disabilities.
Children carried banners and shouted slogans, visiting 15 homes and encouraging parents to send their children to school. Many villagers stopped to listen, and the rally brought a positive energy to the community.
The person behind this effort was Devendra Prakash, the teacher-in-charge. At first, he was unsure about organizing the rally. He had been asked before but hesitated. When the Sol’s ARC team offered support, he felt more confident and agreed to lead the effort. Devendra planned the event carefully, involved other teachers, and personally joined the rally. He spoke to families, helped answer questions, and ensured the message reached every corner of the village.

What We Can Learn:

  • Hesitation is Normal – Support Helps: With the right support, teachers like Devendra can take important steps.
  • Start Small, Think Big: A two-hour rally can lead to more awareness and enrollment.
  • Teachers Can Lead Change: Devendra showed that even one teacher can make a big impact in the community.
  • Inclusion Needs Action: Talking to families, walking the streets, and spreading the message—these are simple but powerful ways to ensure no child is left behind.
